Client Responses

"I had a lot on my mind and your music helped me forget my troubles. Your music takes me to another place... At night when I can’t sleep I am going to think about your music."

“I love music. It really soothes my nerves. I’m 94 years old and sometimes my nerves get rattled, but this music really soothes my nerves.”
--residents of a skilled nursing facility
"This was the highlight of my week. This gave me something to look forward to all week."

"That was my mom’s favorite song. She used to sing it. It helps me remember her as if she were right here. Your music takes me to another place and time, and that feels so good.."
--hospice patients living in their homes.
"That was my husband's his favorite song. It helps me remember him."
--a resident of a skilled nursing facility
A non-verbal client taps her fingers to the music with her eyes closed,
A client with dementia who usually has confused speech sings along to all four verses of a hymn or folk tune.
Another non-verbal client who sleeps 18+ hours a day awakens as the music plays and watches the harpist's hands intently, becoming increasingly more alert and engaged, while his loved one who cares for him settles in to a much needed, relaxed nap beside him.
An agitated patient ceases crying out every few moments and begins to watch and listen intently. Then later in the music session, she dozes off while listening to the live harp music. Her loved one who cares for her enjoys the time of relaxed, closeness sitting together.
